About

I'm Barry, a product designer in Auckland. Almost 10 years taking products from a messy first problem through research, UX/UI, a design system, and a shipped interface. Zero to one, then the work of keeping it usable once real people are in it.

I work across logistics and supply chain, ecommerce, transport, energy software, telecommunications, and highly regulated public sector. Recent work includes Port Connect's vehicle booking platform, Bidfood's ecommerce re-platform, Kotahi's Voyager customer portal and AI Hub, NZTA products (network monitoring, tolling, multimodal journeys), Spark's B2B portals, and Zendit for wind-farm construction.

I design and ship on web, iOS, Android, Salesforce, and shadcn/ui. I build the design system on top of those platforms: tokens, components, variants, documentation, localisation, and accessibility. I stay in the product with Product and Engineering and iterate there, rather than handing off once.

Outcomes I care about: standing up a design practice and design system, lifting usability (NIEMS to a SUS of 74), WCAG AA/AAA on customer-facing work, and cutting operational overhead with self-service.

Available for contract and fractional product design.
